Nicu Popescu
Biography
Nicu Popescu is a senior analyst with the EU Institute for Security Studies in Paris. He is a leading commentator on EU’s foreign policy, Russia and the eastern neighbourhood. He has headed the Wider Europe Programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations and worked as a research fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies.
He has also worked as EU and Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister of Moldova. This work involved, among other things, coordinating the country’s domestic reform agenda in the areas of visa liberalisation and aviation.
Nicu holds a PhD from the Central European University and has written the book, EU Foreign Policy and the post-Soviet Conflicts: Stealth Intervention. His analyses and Op-Eds have appeared in the Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and Open Democracy.
